Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy refers to therapeutic exercises classes that are performed in the water under the instruction and supervision of a Hydrotherapist. Hydrotherapy integrates the science of safe and effective exercise design, along with the therapeutic properties of water to serve each individual’s fitness abilities, goals and needs. There is no need for the participant to have swimming experience, as their feet remain on the bottom of the pool, with water depth ranging from waist to chest height. Resistance and load can be adjusted according to each individual’s needs. Muscles that are tight on land are stretched in the water, while weak muscles are strengthened in the water, allowing patients to perform a number of exercises that they wouldn’t be able to do on land.

Hydrotherapy at our Clinic is performed by Philip Letts, RMT. Classes are held in the shallow water of the Watermania pool facility on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 7:45 am. Each class is limited to 4 people and is approximately 40 minutes in length. During each class, patients will be taught numerous exercises specific to each patient’s injuries as well as general exercises to increase strength and flexibility.

Hydrotherapy is suitable for almost every patient, and is especially effective for Arthritis, Fibromyalgia and injuries involving multiple body parts.
