Vestibular Rehabilitation

Vertigo, dizziness, and loss of balance are symptoms that are related to peripheral vestibular pathology. Vestibular rehabilitation is an evidence-based assessment and treatment program within the Physiotherapy practice. Vestibular rehabilitation is a hands-on and exercise based treatment technique to relieve the symptoms of dizziness and loss of balance.

Dizziness is the number one reason for doctor’s visits by people over the age of 65, and 10% of all doctor’s visits are due to complaints of dizziness and balance problems. Although dizziness can be due to a variety of causes, a large percentage originates from the vestibular system, a part of the inner ear and the brain that helps control balance and eye movements. The symptoms that arise from the vestibular system are often easily treated with vestibular rehabilitation techniques. Biomechanical problems, viral/bacterial infections, and trauma such as whiplash are some of the other common causes of vestibular dysfunction
